Summary

This is a fantastic role for an experienced controller who loves accounting, managing a team, meeting deadlines, and working with a company filled with accountants.

The Controller is the top position in our Firm Accounting department. The role reports directly to both the VP of Operations and the Partner in Charge of Administration, as well as indirectly to the greater partner group.

The controller manages all aspects of our firm accounting department including: general ledger, payroll, billing, cash receipts, accounts payable, budgeting, collections, contracts, financial statement preparation and management reporting for a multiple office, multiple entity public accounting firm and business group.

 Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage a current staff of 3 full time employees and 1 employee that is shared with another department
• Annual closing and preparation of schedules for consolidated accrual financial statements
• Prepare annual budgets
• Month end closings
• Monthly bank reconciliations
• Review/enter complex payroll, adjusting and intercompany journal entries
• Calculation of variable payments
• Calculation of complex allocations of accrual basis capital
• Preparation and submission of quarterly NYC commercial Rent Tax
• Implement new technologies and procedures as needed
• Work closely with other department heads including IT and HR
• Maintain the commercial banking relationship
• Establish and oversee accounting systems, processes and procedures to ensure efficient operation of the firm's financial function as wells as appropriate controls, checks and balances so that all accounting records are accurate

Reporting

• Monthly and Annual Financial Statements and analyses
• Multiple ad-hoc reports using accounting and time billing data
• Annual industry and government surveys requiring detailed data compiling

Qualifications

• 6+ years' experience in managerial accounting and financial management
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration (with emphasis in Accounting)
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office Products
• High proficiency in QuickBooks using a multi-company environment.
• High level of attention to detail
• Solid time management and prioritization skills
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
• Ecommerce experience
• Interested in new technologies
• Experience implementing new software programs
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines
• Proven problem solving capabilities
• Advanced Excel skills associated with large volumes of data, data management and reporting
• Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills
• Comfortable with change

Locations

• The company currently has 2 office locations. The Controller role is based in Garden City, Long Island. The Controller may spend time in the midtown Manhattan office as needed.

Preferred

• CPA or Masters Degree

Bonus

• Experience with professional time billing for an accounting, law, or consulting firm
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
• Knowledge of CCH ProSystem Practice Management
